American Unpeople

American Unpeople explores the changing meaning of belonging, citizenship, and political identity in the United States. The book examines how Americans have historically defined who is considered part of the national community—and who is excluded from it.

Through history, politics, culture, and the language of public life, American Unpeople considers the forces that shape American identity and the consequences of drawing boundaries between “the people” and those perceived to stand outside them.

Thought-provoking and timely, the book invites readers to look more closely at the ideas of citizenship, inclusion, exclusion, and what it means to belong in America.

The Guardians

The Guardians follows Julie Belshe and her family as they confront Nevada’s controversial guardianship system and become caught in a legal and personal struggle that exposes the human cost of a system meant to protect vulnerable people.

Set against the broader guardianship crisis in Las Vegas, the film examines the power granted to court-appointed guardians, the families who find themselves fighting to remain involved in their loved ones’ lives, and the difficult questions surrounding accountability, due process, and individual rights.

Through Julie Belshe’s story and the experiences of her family, The Guardians offers an intimate look at the emotional toll of guardianship disputes while exploring larger questions about who gets to make decisions for others—and what happens when families challenge the system.
